Why should you host a Mosaic project in your chapter?

Mosaic is a Programme of CISV, like Village, Interchange, etc, but if we think of Mosaic not as an additional Programme that Chapters must take on, but rather as a tool that Chapters can use to improve the quality of their existing Programmes and continue to grow, then exciting possibilities emerge.

There are several fundamental elements of Mosaic that could contribute to the development of Chapters:

  • Increased participation
  • Recruitment and retention of volunteers
  • Improved CISV identity in the community
  • Leadership development
  • Cooperation among Chapter members
  • Understanding of CISV principles

Would you like to host a Mosaic project in your Chapter?

Here's some first steps to take to start a project in your Chapter, national or promotional association.

1) Appoint a National Mosaic Chair if you don't already have one, and, when possible, appoint a Chapter Mosaic Chair to be the main point of contact with the IMC. You can find out here whether there is already a chair in your NA. If you can't find your NA in the list, contact directly the IMC providing contact details of your Mosaic Chair and whether you want to host a project soon.

2) Find out where and when the next Regional Mosaic Trainings (RMT) are taking place and ask your chair and project staff to attend. Otherwise, if you already have a trained National Mosaic Chair, you can ask them to run a Local Mosaic Training (LMT). Remember that in order to host a Mosaic project, it is necessary that the project staff received a specific training.

How does the Mosaic Programme administration work?

By June 1st the National Mosaic Chairs have to send to the International Office (IO) the Mosaic Host Data Sheet. In this form they indicate how many Mosaic Projects they wish to host during the following year. These projects end up in the Mosaic Project Pool. This means that the projects will be given a support person and will receive support in all phases of the project.

Be aware that the International Mosaic Committee works with 4 Priority Periods. For example, projects in Priority Period A will receive support to plan their project from September 1st till the end of November, and should send their project proposal to the IO by December 1st the latest. The International Mosaic Committee then has two weeks to approve it, and the project can start after December 15th. Only approved projects can use the CISV Mosaic Programme label and name. The 4 Priority Periods are:

A: September 1st – December 1st
B: December 1st – March 1st
C: March 1st – June 1st
D: June 1st – September 1st

If you have a project idea but do not have a priority period (i.e. your project is not in the pool) you can still send in your proposal to the IO. It will then be dealt with if there are the necessary human resources and time.

The International Mosaic Committee checks all projects with the Programme characteristics and approves projects that are in line with CISV and Programme educational characteristics. This is done through a Mosaic Worksheet. When the project is over the same worksheet is used to report on the outcome of the project, and has to be sent to the IO by two weeks from the end of the project. The report serves as a resource for the continuous improvement and development of the Programme.

The Priority Period illustration helps you to better understand how the administration works.

You think you might have I forgotten anything?

In the Mosaic 'Step-by-Step' document you find a checklist of what you should consider before starting to plan your project.
